A small blue softback book of 175 pages with a picture of the author in Barnardo's, aged 7, on the front cover, and the following publisher's note on the back: 'the sixth of a series of Barnardo Biographies published by Badgerwood publications LLP, this is told within a lifelong quest to find his Father. From dubious beginnings the author progresses through Dr Barnardo's Homes, including the Watts Naval Training School, before becoming re-united with his Mother and family. Odd jobs in London lead to his employment in Fleet Street, and emigration to California, where he makes his own family life. Despite long life-threatening and painful illnesses he makes a successful career of publishing before increasing disability compels him to defend his livelihood and family through litigation. Behind his struggles his father remains an unresolved spectre despite heroic genealogical research. He writes of his life with humour and conviction within a re-iterated gratitude to Dr Barnardo's Homes, making this a good read.
