Barnardo
Bibliography Discussion from Badgerwood.
It is common practice when studying for the production of an academic thesis or book, to make a list of the relevant literature as a bibliography in support of the work, implying that the books will have been read and noted while studying the topic. The final form of the thesis or book will generally contain references spread throughout, or at the end of chapters or segments; they may be listed as the relevant bibliographic items, or, in the most thoroughly documented works, given as page references with each item.
Reciprocally, a listed bibliography can be read and studied with a view to extracting therefrom the initial, developing, and current view of a topic or related topics. This annotated Barnardo biography could be studied in relation to Barnardo - the man, and Barnardo's - his contribution.
Aspects:
Family 1845. Frailty. Childhood. Literacy. Youth. Adolescence. Apprenticeship. Vocation. The East End 1866. Medical Education. East End Evangelism. East End Philanthropism. Communication. Friendships. Dr Barnardo's Homes 1870. Marriage. Success and Failure. Expediency. Accusations. Exposure. Arbitration 1877. Atrocities 1888. Expansion 1889. Display. Homes. Boarding out. Emigration. Another approach would be to start with number 48( bbnotes48.html ), which is a centenary publication, and trace through the current Barnardo’s website and publications ( http://www.barnardos.org.uk/ ) the accounts of ‘what works’ in the Barnardo’s of today. It could then be simply stated what the apostrophe in Barnardo’s expresses of the relationship between the organisation of today and its founder.
